25 Kislev: DOUBLE YOUR KINDNESS

25 Kislev: DOUBLE YOUR KINDNESS

Double Your Kindness this Chanukah - We will turn your actions into dollars!

This week, you have the opportunity to make your acts of kindness go even further. Thanks to a generous grant from EJF Philanthropies, #kislevisforkindness is going to turn your actions into dollars!

For every act of kindness that is shared in our Facebook Group, we will donate $1 to MAZON: A Jewish Response to Hunger, up to $1,500.

Any act of kindness helps - big or small, and it doesn't have to be the daily challenge, but hopefully, you will find them helpful. Please help spread this information so we can make a meaningful impact for MAZON.

Today's suggested challenge is to think about the teachers in your life and say thank you. Perhaps it's a current teacher or one from your past, but reach out and show your appreciation. This could be a handwritten note, email, or phone call. Or, you can ask if they have a wish list and help purchase something for their classroom.

Remember, post your acts of kindness in this group and share this post to help spread the word!

22 Kislev: Park Further Away

Do you circle the parking lot looking for the closest spot? Today's #kislevisforkindness is to be grateful for what you are capable of doing, and be thoughtful to make life easier for others.

Here are some ways you can do this:

  • Choose a parking spot further away

  • Clear debris from the sidewalk

  • Hold the elevator for someone

  • Give up your seat on the bus or train

Dedicate today to making others more comfortable!

We have some exciting news! We have received a generous grant from EJF Philanthropies to help our acts of kindness go even further. More details coming soon, but make sure to join our Facebook group to stay up to date.

21 Kislev: Treat the Next Person in Line

21 Kislev: Treat the Next Person in Line

Today's #kislevisforkindness is to treat the next person in line. Whether at the coffee shop or laundromat, treating someone when they do not expect it can really brighten their day and that kindness can go along way.

You could also let someone go before you in line, or leave them a grocery bag, coupon, or maybe treat them to an extra discount.

Try to think who you can surprise with a kind gesture!

20 Kislev: Volunteer with an organization you love

20 Kislev: Volunteer with an organization you love

Today's #kislevisforkindness is to think long-term about building relationships with the charities or organizations you love.

Reach out to find out what their long-term needs are.

Do they have an upcoming event?

Do they need help in the office?

Perhaps it is a monthly volunteer opportunity or setting up a monthly Amazon delivery of goods they need.

WE ARE MORE THAN HALFWAY THROUGH KISLEV.

It is time to start thinking about how we can continue our small acts of kindness year-round.

18 Kislev: Leave a Treat for the Mail Carrier

18 Kislev: Leave a Treat for the Mail Carrier

Today's #kislevisforkindness is to leave a treat for the mail carrier. Perhaps it's a thank you card, a snack, or a gift card. You can give directly to your mail carrier or leave it on your mailbox.

The main focus of this challenge is to show appreciation to those people in your life that help you get through your day.

Consider making a treat for:

  1. Administrative staff at your school or office

  2. People at your local grocery store

  3. Children's bus drivers

  4. Whoever drives a carpool with you

Remember, a little token of gratitude goes a long way.

15 Kislev: Buy Something to Donate

We hope everyone had a meaningful Thanksgiving! For those of you participating in Black Friday shopping, consider buying something extra to donate. It could be a winter jacket, gloves, hats, or toys for kids.

Many organizations set up Amazon Wishlists of items they could use. Take a look at your favorite organization and see if they have one.

If you aren't heading to the store, take another look around your home and see if there is anything you can donate to those in need.

14 Kislev: Be Grateful

14 Kislev: Be Grateful

14 Kislev: Be Grateful

Happy Thanksgiving from #kislevisforkindness. Make today a day to be mindful of all the people and events that got you to where you are today. Show your gratitude to those around you and those you are thinking about today.

If celebrating, make sure to be grateful to those you are dining with for cooking and sharing your meals.

We are so grateful to all of you for sharing your kindness with us. Here's a quick #kislevisforkindness story of inspiration.

On Monday afternoon, a member in our Facebook group posted that Thanksgiving dinner for 10 adolescent boys was needed after their original catered donation fell through. Within 12 hours, members of our group mobilized to pull together a feast for these boys to make sure they have a happy holiday. This is what #kislevisforkindness is all about.

Headed to the grocery store for some pre-Thanksgiving shopping? Today's #kislevisforkindness is to focus on being courteous to those around you - return someone's grocery store cart or help them get something from a top shelf.

Be aware of how the people around you are managing and make an effort to help. A little goes a long way.

12 Kislev: Call a Relative You Haven't Spoken to in A While

12 Kislev: Call a Relative You Haven't Spoken to in A While

Is there a family member or someone in your life you haven't spoken to in a while? Today's #kislevisforkindness challenge is to think outside your daily communication and connect with that someone.

No time like the present to connect.

Ask how they are doing, share a sweet memory, or maybe make a plan to get together.

There may also be someone in your family that was lumped into a "general family" category that may deserve some direct contact and attention. Try to make the extra effort to give that person some individual attention.

11 Kislev: Leave a Treat for the Trash Collector

Today's #kislevisforkindness challenge is to think about the people in your life who make sure everything runs smoothly.

They may be your community trash collectors or the custodial crew. Or consider treating those who help perform maintenance services in your home, office, or school.

You can also offer a hand and help clean for others!

Take the day to be grateful to those who care for you!

10 Kislev: Help an Elderly Neighbor with Yard Work

10 Kislev: Help an Elderly Neighbor with Yard Work

This week's #kislevisforkindness is to help a neighbor with yard work. It doesn't have to be a neighbor and it doesn't have to be yard work, but please, think outside your space to find ways you can make the world a better place.

Here are some ideas:

  • Gather a group to clean a local park or trail

  • Pick up trash around your neighborhood

  • Think of a neighbor who may benefit from a little extra help around the house - switching lightbulbs, taking out trash, etc.

Offer your time to help!

Make sure to take a picture and share your #kislevisforkindness with the world!

8 Kislev: Reach out to an old friend

8 Kislev: Reach out to an old friend

There is no day like today to reach out to an old friend! Whether it's picking up the phone, shooting a text, or sending an email, little words go a long way. Take the opportunity to reconnect with someone you haven't spoken to in a long time. Perhaps it's a friend who helped you in a time of need, or someone that you miss. Let them know you are thinking of them and appreciate having them in your life.

We hope you find joy in connecting with others!

7 Kislev: Let someone go before you in line

7 Kislev: Let someone go before you in line

Today's #kislevisforkindness challenge is simple - let someone go before you in line!

The bigger message here is to put someone else's needs before your own.

You can complete this challenge in the grocery store, coffee shop, or at the turnstile at the metro. You can do it at home by letting your family member have the first shower, or letting a sibling take the first turn with a toy.

Think about those around you, and enjoy the grace in waiting patiently.

6 Kislev: Donate cans to a food pantry

6 Kislev: Donate cans to a food pantry

Today's #kislevisforkindness challenge is to donate canned food to a food pantry. With the holidays right around the corner, many families will be turning to these pantries for help with their meals.

Here are simple ways to complete the challenge:

  • Identify a local drop off point - Contact your local food pantries to find the best place to drop off your donation. Does your local grocery store have donation bins? When you shop, make an effort to pick up extra non-perishable food items to put in the donation bins after check out.

  • If you are buying cans to donate, consider purchasing the foods that may be most desirable this time of year. Many food banks are requesting
items that families would want for Thanksgiving supper, such as cranberry sauces, pumpkin puree, and beans.

  • You don't need to go to a store to find cans: Purge your pantry! Identify cans that can be donated, don't let them go to waste!

  • Can't get to the grocery store? Consider a small donation to a local food pantry. Check out Feeding America to find your local food bank.
